ONE VILLAGE
ONE PRODUCT
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, jobs disappeared in rural areas in the Kyrgyz Republic (hereinafter Kyrgyzstan), and poverty became a serious problem. In particular, women in rural areas had no opportunity to go out except for housework, and their status was low. In order to revitalize the local economy, JICA launched the One Village, One Product Project (OVOP), which makes use of materials such as wool and honey that are unique to Kyrgyzstan, a mountainous country with untouched nature.
Making products that connect with the world using local materials provides local people with a valuable source of cash income and also gives them confidence and pride. What began in a small area in Issyk-Kul Province has now spread throughout Kyrgyzstan, widening the scope of One Village, One Product activities.
JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) is supporting the One Village, One Product movement in Kyrgyzstan.
Wool goods
Kyrgyzstan is a mountainous country with mountains reaching 4,000 meters above sea level. We use wool from the mountains where wild snow leopards live to create our goods, stitch by stitch. We have a number of goods designed based on the original character of the Mamorou Project, "Snow Leopard-san." Each one has a different expression, reflecting the individuality of the maker. Please enjoy the warmth of the handmade items and the soft feel of the 100% merino wool. Snow leopards also have the longest tails of any cat. We communicate the characteristics of snow leopards through our products, such as tail straps and tail piercings that make use of this characteristic.
Snow Leopard's
SNOW HONEY
Snow Leopard 's Snow Honey is a rare white honey found near the mountains where wild snow leopards live . The nectar source plant, Espalset, is an alpine plant that is highly nutritious and has been loved by the nomadic people of Kyrgyzstan since ancient times.
It is white like a snow leopard and extremely rare. It melts slowly in your mouth and has an elegant sweetness that will have you hooked after just one bite. Try it on bread, sweets, and cheese (especially ricotta cheese). *Do not feed honey to infants under 1 year of age.
